Venus Behbahani-Clark: “I Was Taken Back By “Mrs Wolfe’s” Warped And Emotionally Inept Gift To Gina”

Venus Behbahani-Clark is taking to her Arena Blog to dish on this week's Season 4 premiere episode of The Real Housewives of Melbourne. Venus Behbahani-Clark opens up about her friendship with Gina Liano and teases feud with Gamble Breaux.

Venus writes:

"Welcome to Season 4 of The Real Housewives of Melbourne! This season Sally Bloomfield and I joined the glamorous five women on a roller coaster ride of emotions and this is an understatement!

The season commences with a prelude of what the ladies have been up to. Gina Liano’s beloved father passed away when the season commenced and the first episode unveiled the strong and evolved beautiful friendship that Lydia and Gina (once not so on good terms) have accomplished.

Gina introduces me to the girls by inviting me to a dinner at The Point Restaurant. Gina makes reference to the late MrLiano’s funeral where Lydia and I took an instant liking to each other and I use that term “liking” in the sense of the “sisterhood” – she gets me and I understand her! Gina must’ve known this from the beginning-that is, that my entrance was going to complete the sisterhood of what Janet likes to call “the dark side”.

My name is Venus Behbahani-Clark (I’m not named after the planet but after the Roman Goddess). My father, Moji Behbahani (who you will meet later on in the season) loved the Greek/Roman mythology and after migrating to Australia at the tender age of 9 from Italy – I could not speak a word of English or Persian Farsi (my mother language). I was bullied in my first year of school in Melbourne and was called “Venus the Penis” so I immediately went into damage control mode and renamed myself “Vanessa”. I went from a goddess into a butterfly! As Vanessa means “butterfly” I had to be that free, fragile being that no one with a good soul likes to crush. Now I’m apparently a “Siamese cat” – talk about reincarnation!

Eventually I gained my self confidence and moved schools and Vanessa was on a mission! I knew at the age of 9 that I was going to be a lawyer. A lawyer who fought in court! A lawyer who would stand up for the underdog’s rights and that’s eventually what I did. I commenced my career in commercial litigation but I wasn’t fulfilled. I had to do more.  I found my love in human rights and this is where my passion lies and surprise, surprise, that’s where I met gorgeous Gina Liano! We met at the security entrance in court and we were so taken back by each other’s femininity, scent and beauty we stood there and paid compliments to each other for 15 minutes!

This is where the beautiful “Ginus” love began in court (kind of like “Genius” don’t you think? Now I’m floating out boat)

As Marcel Proust says, “let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners that make our souls blossom”. The most basic and powerful way Gina and I connect is that we have a quality friendship that does not require constant maintenance and there is no expectation to give and take.

Gina warned me before meeting the ladies that some would be hard work. However, she would never have introducedme into the “Snake Pit” if she wasn’t confident in my strength. And so the journey began….

I decided to join the cast to test my skillset of being accountable for the words that come out of my mouth and allow myself to engage in the fast paced situation where minor things escalate in order to embarrass and challenge reaction. I aimed to prove that you can be feisty but kind. To empower women who have gone through or are thinking of going through re-inventing and evolving themselves. For those who are happy with their present circumstances, this may simply mean a bit of tweaking here and there, while others may find themselves reluctant to explore their desires of fear of discovering a need they can’t fulfill. This is what my journey’s about.

Once upon a time I was a woman who had an underlying need for change and realized it won’t simply go away by ignoring it. One way or the other, the need always made itself known. I would like my audiences to be driven, to create change as a result of an inescapable feeling that there just has to be more to life.

Regardless of the nature or method of delivery, we have a choice whether to be a passenger and ride along in whatever direction the wings of fate take us. This is why I created Venus cosmetics: www.venuscosmetics.com.au and decided to join The Real Housewives of Melbourne. There is a level of growth and richness in wisdom that can only come through this type of experience and my character and brand is not about giving up my former self but rather simply adding a new dimension.

Enough about me, let’s talk about the ladies. The first dinner, I must say was the only dinner where I actually completed my meal because I could not get a word in and was not a part of the drama that had built up over the last five years.

I was taken back by “Mrs Wolfe’s” warped and emotionally inept gift to Gina and agreed with Jackie that the roses in a black box (which reminded me of Gina’s father’s coffin) delivered at our table with the note “I would never deny you at my table” was a BIG “Fuck you” to Gina, especially after the lack of attendance at Gina’s father’s funeral.

I could feel there was so much hurt and unresolved tension between the ladies and that “Mrs Wolfe” may become a problem for me as I am not a “fan” in Gina’s life and didn’t just know her for 15 minutes. I knew then and there with the passive aggressive note that “Mrs Wolfe” was going to make me suffer for the deep love and history that Gina and I actually have. Sometimes the abused becomes the abuser and boy was I right!"
