According to E! News, Antonia died on Friday of natural causes. However, Entertainment Tonight claims that Antonia was admitted to a local hospital for pneumonia back in December and was never released.
“Yes, Antonia Gorga passed away at the age of 66,” a source tells Us Weekly. “Teresa has been in the hospital with her and is inconsolable now. Teresa is also in communication with [her husband] Joe and will be visiting as soon as she can."
"This is a very hard time for Teresa," the source added. "She was very close with her mother."
Back in October, Antonia celebrated her 66th birthday with her family by her side, as documented via Instagram by Teresa. "Happy Birthday to my beautiful MAMA!" she captioned one of the pics. "I am the person I am because of you. Love you with all my heart."
Giudice last posted a sweet photo of herself with her mother in December with the caption, “Mommy I love you so much ❤️ #daughtersloveforhermom.” In the image, the Bravo reality star crouches next to Antonia, who is smiling wide while seated at a dining room table.
Teresa confirmed her passing in a touching tribute on Instagram.
"Thank you for the love and support during this extremely difficult time. My mother was a very cherished part of our family and she'll be deeply missed. Each and every one of your messages of love & support are so appreciated," Teresa said. "Give her eternal rest O Lord and may your light shine on her forever."
Antonia is survived by Teresa, Joe, their father Giacinto Gorga and seven grandchildren—Teresa and husband Joe Giudice's four daughters and Joe and RHONJ cast member Melissa Gorga's two sons and daughter, who is named after Antonia.
