"When I joined The Real Housewives of New Jersey, my intentions were solely to use my expertise to help mend the broken relationships of my friends on the show. Although I haven’t been able to accomplish this goal (yet!), due mainly to a lack of cooperation, I am so grateful for this experience for what it has ended up bringing my family and me instead.
No matter who you are, or what point you happen to be at in your life, there’s ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS room for you to learn and grow –- you just have to be open to it. Throughout all of this, I’ve learned so much about myself and my own relationships that I didn’t even realize needed fixing. Thanks to my parents and my children, I’ve learned to listen more. If I hadn’t signed on to be the first Jewish Jersey Housewife, who knows if I would have had these enlightening conversations. Either way, I’m so glad that they felt comfortable enough to open up to me, that we respect each other as much as we do, and that we all truly want to see each other happy.
What makes my mother happy -– and in turn makes me happy -– is being together more often. After our conversation, my sister, Iris, and I have been having lunch with my mom once a week, and we have been making a conscious effort to spend more time together as a family. I really enjoy my parents’ company; I have no doubt that my desire to help others and my innate positivity stems from the both of them. My mother is such a caring, giving, selfless person, and my father is a remarkable humanitarian. Compassion is simply in my DNA.
I am so proud to be the daughter of both of my parents every single day, but especially my father, Dr. Mordecai Paldiel. If my father can put a positive spin on one of the most horrific times in history, anyone should be able to see light in the darkness. At the age of six, a French cleric helped my father and his family to escape into Switzerland, saving their lives. Throughout his life, my father has interviewed many others who also helped Jews during the Holocaust, in turn risking their own lives. When he asks why they did it, the answer is always the same: “It was the right thing to do.”
May you all always take the opportunity to be a leader and to do what’s right, and may you always see the good in everything –- it’s out there, trust me."
