As we reported a few weeks ago, the Real Housewives franchise has reached a new home, which is South Africa with The Real Housewives of Johannesburg. The cast are currently filming its first season and according to new reports, former Generations actress Sonia Sedibe has left the upcoming reality TV series, but was she fired or did she quit?
According to City Press three sources close to the production, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said she was le go because of her “diva” tendency and her lack of professionalism on set.
One said they had also lost at least two of the housewives they wanted on the show because neither of them wanted to work with Sedibe. Another said Sedibe “was engaged in numerous arguments with other housewives on a personal level”.
“We even lost potential sponsors because they didn’t want to be associated with Sedibe. They assumed it was her production,” said yet another. Sedibe, however, denied that she was fired, insisting she left the show on good terms. “I left because of better offers. If I was a diva, would I make tea for the team?” she said on Friday.
“I really love those girls [the housewives]. I’m the one who hand-picked them, after all. We had a good working relationship.” Sedibe was initially cast as one of the housewives but later became the show’s production manager.
Archie Tigere, owner of Tigere Media, which produces the show, confirmed Sedibe had departed on Tuesday. “It was a mutual agreement. She didn’t fit our profile. Things were just not working out.”
