Jeana Keough Explains Why It Took So Long To Finalize Her Divorce From Matt Keough!

Jeana Keough reflects on her relationship with her late ex-husband Matt Keough. The former Real Housewives of Orange County star also revealed why it took so long for the two to finalize their divorce.

“The getting divorced part is ugly. Look at me, it took 27 or 28 years to get divorced. I literally got divorced from Matt 3 months before he died,” Keough said during a recent interview with Bravo Insider's Life After Bravo.

She further explained, “[It took so long because] neither one of us wanted to do it. Neither one of us cared about it. But he had a girlfriend for 4 or 5 years, maybe 7 [years], I don't know. They had gotten engaged and I thought, 'oh well. maybe he wants to marry her.' So I got divorced. Then COVID hit, so they couldn't get married.”

In November 2019, Jeana revealed she finally finalized her divorce. “Last week, I signed the divorce papers,” she said during her appearance at the Bravo All Stars: OG Housewives Edition panel at BravoCon. “I just was afraid to!”

Andy Cohen noted how long the split has been in the works, and Jeana responded, “32 [years] married. We were apart for probably 22. I wanted to be there for him if he needed to have a voice.”

In September 2018, The Blast reported that Matt filed for legal separation from Jeana in 2004 and that Jeana bought a five-bedroom, five and a half-bathroom home in Coto de Caza, California, with his name on the deed. Matt later transferred the property to her, with his name listed as a “spouse of Grantee” in documents, according to the site.

Sadly Matt passed away in 2020. The former MLB athlete and Real Housewives of Orange County husband passed away at the age of 64.

Jeana shared the cause of Matt’s sudden death. “He had a pulmonary embolism,” she told HollywoodLife on May 8, six days after her ex-husband passed away. Jeana added that the blood clot was in Matt’s lungs, but the health condition was blindsiding to the former Oakland Athletics player’s family.

“He wasn’t sick,” Jeana revealed. “He was used to riding his bike 30 miles a day or 20 miles a day so probably the inactivity,” Jeana shared, although she couldn’t confirm what exactly caused the pulmonary embolism.

Jeana and Matt share three children: son Shane (33) daughter Kara (31) and son Colton (27).
