New details have emerged about the Real Housewives mashup series, which is currently in development at NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock.
The platform previously teased that the special would be coming soon as an original series. Now, new sources are sharing new details about the upcoming new series.
“It’s just them filming a fun show and getting the ladies together from different franchises,” a source told Us Weekly. “Due to COVID-19, some Housewives favorites couldn’t be a part of it but if all goes well, they could potentially be in the future.”
Although the cast is still being narrowed down, the outlet reports that it’s possible that the series will feature cast members of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, New Jersey, Beverly Hills, New York, and Orange County.
This week, PEOPLE revealed that a Real Housewives All-Stars series is currently in development at NBCUniversal streaming service Peacock.
Sources share that Bravo has been toying with the idea of a Real Housewives “all-stars" spinoff for quite some time, with talk ramping up when Peacock entered the mix. Some women were contacted in late 2019/early 2020 to test the temperature on the idea, which would see cast members -- potentially both past and present -- from various cities take a trip together.
“The trips are always the most memorable part of any season of Housewives, so it makes total sense they’d want to do this,” the source told Entertainment Tonight. “If the women want to do it is another question.”
Sources tell the outlet that the original idea was to turn a week or weeks-long getaway into a limited series, which could be repeated with new women in new locations if successful.
Production on the potential show might look a lot like the fifth season of Bravo’s Summer House, which shot for six weeks straight with cameras on the cast 24/7 under strict COVID-19 protocols. Bravo is replicating that format with Winter House, a spinoff set to go into production in the coming weeks which will feature cast members from both Summer House and Southern Charm.
The Jasmine Brand was the first to report the news about the new limited series. While it’s not clear who will take part in the series, the outlet reports that “eight to ten ladies will go on a trip and stay in a home together at a tropical location.”
Meanwhile, casting details about the upcoming series has been revealed courtesy via The Blast.
Reporter Anthony Dominic is sharing more details about the spin-off. Sources reveal to Dominic that producers are reportedly looking at adding Cynthia Bailey, Kenya Moore, Kyle Richards, Lisa Rinna, Melissa Gorga, Ramona Singer, Sonja Morgan, and Teresa Giudice.
He tweeted, “I’m told the Housewives spin-off will likely film for 1 week in April. The location will be Mexico or somewhere tropical. Potomac not expected due to filming overlap. Names I’ve heard being discussed are Cynthia, Melissa G, Kenya, Kyle, Rinna, Ramona, Sonja, Teresa but not final.”
He added, “They want roughly 10 women. Some Housewives are upset because they want Bravo to take their time and let women out of filming their franchise seasons to film this show if they are a star, but as of now Bravo isn’t letting them. #bravotv.”
The news comes after it was officially revealed that a reboot of The Real Housewives of Miami is in development at Peacock. Sources reveal that casting is underway as former cast members are in talks as well as new hopefuls.
Joanna Krupa confirmed that she has no interest in returning to the series but wished the revival the best of luck. TMZ reported that Lea Black was also not returning to the series while Larsa Pippen is heavily rumored to return to the series following her fallout with the Kardashian family.
