Following the series premiere episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Whitney Rose sets the record straight about her leaving the Mormon church.
The Bravo reality star took to her Instagram page to address the topic. "For those who have watched the first episode of #rhoslc on @bravotv ... there is something I want to correct," she wrote. "Contrary to what one of my cast mates stated, I WAS NOT EXCOMMUNICATED from the Mormon church."
She added, "I chose to walk away. Although I no longer identify as a Mormon I still have a deep love and admiration for all of my Mormon friends and family @jmrose24."
If you recall from the Wednesday, Nov. 11 episode, Rose revealed that her first marriage came to an end after she engaged in an affair with her now-husband Justin, which the pair renewed their vows in the first episode of the Bravo hit reality series.
Whitney shared that after she got divorced, she became "unofficially excommunicated" from the Mormon Church.
"I wasn't forced out, which is shocking," she told Entertainment Tonight. "An unofficial excommunication means that you leave by your own free will. I stopped practicing, I removed my Mormon garments that I was wearing, which is the underwear you receive when you make a commitment in the Mormon Church."
However, Whitney joked she may become officially excommunicated from the Church after the premiere of RHOSLC.
"Yes, I've already blown up my life -- in a way that is unimaginable," she said. "I've lost family, friends, I've hurt tons of people. I've been judged, I've been… everything, so it's almost like therapy to sit here in front of the world and say, yes, this is how it started. I made that choice -- a lot of people do -- but a lot of people don't own it, and owning it has helped me create a firm foundation and a stable life."
