Crystal Kung Minkoff, who is the newest cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is "very excited" about joining the Bravo hit reality series for the show's upcoming eleventh season.
"Crystal is not a reality TV person, but she feels that Asians need more representation on TV," the source told Entertainment Tonight. "This was an opportunity that came to her and she felt a strong responsibility to pursue it."
"Not only does Crystal want to highlight the diversity of those living in Beverly Hills, but she also wants to convey that one can be down to earth and live a simpler life in Beverly Hills as well," the source added.
According to the source, Crystal is friends with Teddi [Mellencamp], as well as Kyle Richards' sister, Kathy Hilton. She also runs in the same circle as Lisa [Rinna] and Kyle, according to the source.
Crystal, who is an entrepreneur and mom of two, will be the first Asian-American Housewife on the Bravo hit reality series.
She is married to Rob Minkoff, who directed the original Lion King movie. He also directed The Haunted Mansion, Stuart Little and Stuart Little 2 among others.
The couple tied the knot in 2007 and share son Max (8), and daughter Zoe (5). They celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary in September.
Crystal is the founder of Real Coco, a company that offers coconut products, including coffee creamer, water, milk, and chips.
Crystal will join returning cast members Richards, Rinna, Erika Girardi, Dorit Kemsley, and Garcelle Beauvais. Kathy Hilton is also joining the show as a "friend" along with returning friend Sutton Stracke.
