“It kills me to see this!” Peterson told Radar Online, insisting the jail’s staff should have protected her son from the attack.
“The guards have a duty to serve and protect…A dead man can’t talk! A dead man can’t pursue his civil action against the county!”
He remains at the Theo Lacy Facility, a maximum-security jail in Orange, where his mother claims he has suffered multiple attacks over the years.
A desperate attempt to dismiss the case was denied in March 2019, despite an O.C. Sheriff’s Office manager’s admission authorities accessed Waring’s private calls while behind bars.
He will return to court on October 18 in his years-long fight for freedom.
Peterson told the outlet that she believes her son’s being targeted behind bars because his case unearthed claims law enforcement accessed inmates’ phone calls.
Waring said an inmate jumped and assaulted him with a makeshift weapon made of a pencil and blades.
“I was fighting for my life … I was screaming,” Waring told Radar Online via a phone call as his voice cracked. “As he’s punching me, the blade sliced up my face and chest.”
Waring has admitted to struggling with addiction, but insisted he never tried to kill anyone.
Meanwhile, reps for the O.C. Sheriff’s Department and Central Jail released a statement about the incident: “Yesterday at approximately 6pm, there was an assault that occurred at the Intake Release Center between two male inmates. Both inmates were treated by medical staff at the jail for injuries sustained during the assault. A criminal investigation against the suspect has begun, along with an internal administrative investigation.”
