Lauri Peterson is giving an update on her son Josh Waring's attempted murder. The former Real Housewives of Orange County star appeared on Megyn Kelly TODAY on Thursday where she detailed her Waring's lengthy issues with drugs and the law, which culminated in his 2016 arrest after a shooting in Costa Mesa, California.
Josh, who was charged with three counts of attempted murder and is currently awaiting trial maintains his innocence. Lauri agrees with her son and believes he didn't commit the crime, claiming there doesn't seem to be evidence that points to his guilt.
Lauri opened up about the case along with Josh's defense attorney Joel Garson. Josh has been accused of a shooting at a "flop house" in which one man was shot and survived. Another man, in her opinion a possible suspect, was on the scene that night — and Lauri and Joel maintain he could be the shooter, according to Bravo's The Daily Dish. Lauri and Joel also share that there is still a question about which car is the one belonging to the shooter. However, the prosecution, Megyn noted, does maintain they have evidence that points to Josh's guilt.
"My son was tested immediately [for gun shot residue]... he had no [gun shot residue] on him whatsoever... They did not test [the other possible suspect]," explains Lauri.
Lauri further shared on Megyn Kelly TODAY that while she "struggles" with her decision to only financially aid her son for rehab-related purposes and not legal issues, she reveals that Josh being incarcerated did eventually help him get clean.
"So because Josh found the strength and resilience and he was able to without any help; he hasn't been given any rehabilitation. Nothing but strength from himself. He's really invested himself into this case and studied," Lauri noted. "And it's really given him a purpose. So the silver lining is he is sober."
As previously reported, Waring was charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire on two people in Costa Mesa and then leading cops on a wild car chase on June 20, 2016. Waring was eventually captured and charged with three counts of attempted murder and several other felony and misdemeanor charges.
Jury selection began on Jan. 29, and Waring is still pleading not guilty. However, if found guilty, he could face several life sentences.
Warning has had substance abuse problems for many years. If you recall, he was hit with a felony possession of a controlled substance charge and accusations of being under the influence — while locked up behind bars!
According to court records obtained by Radar Online, Waring was busted with “pruno,” an alcoholic drink made from fermented fruit, ketchup, sugar, bread and other ingredients.
Meanwhile, Waring continues to fight on with his mom and dad’s support. “My mom has been at all the court hearings every day and my dad is involved, they have been supportive,” he said. “It’s been hard knowing the circumstances, it’s been difficult at times, but I push on and keep the fight up.”
“Some days I want to cave in, but the support from my mom and dad and everyone around me has been everything.”
