Emily Simpson: “To Be Very Honest, Watching This Episode Was Difficult For Me”

Emily Simpson is taking to her Bravo Blog to dish on this week's episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Emily Simpson opens up about her emotional journey to motherhood and miscarriages.

Emily writes:

"To be very honest, watching this episode was difficult for me. It brought back a lot of hurt and emotions that I had buried away. Reliving my journey to motherhood has not been easy, but I feel like it’s important to share my heartache and my life with other women so that we feel less alone. This time period in my life was full of pain, darkness and frustration. My journey was difficult, physically and emotionally. My physical health was at risk during the in-vitro process (the egg-retrieval specifically) and then again when I lost the twins. Due to the complications I endured, I don’t think it would ever be in my best interest to attempt to carry a child myself. My body fails me. I’ve come to accept this. Nor, do I think Shane would ever feel comfortable with that decision. He was right by my side during the entire journey, the miscarriages, the in-vitro complications, and the horrific losses. I know he would not be comfortable with me attempting to put my body through that trauma again. Therefore, if he and I did decide that we wanted to have another child, we would definitely use a surrogate. I still dream of having another little girl…who knows what the future holds for us, but whatever it is, I look at my children every single day and am grateful to my sister, Sara, for their existence.

Also, October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month. For a more in-depth conversation about my journey to motherhood and what I endured, check out a podcast I did for @thisisinfertilitypodcast. You can listen to the full podcast at progyny.com/podcast.

I was looking forward to watching Shannon’s debut on QVC! I have always been an advocate of empowering women and strongly feel that women should support and inspire one another. I wanted to watch and let her know that I thought her new business venture was great and that I was there to support her. I think she did well on her QVC appearance and that she looked very confident and spoke well. I even texted her before her appearance and wished her good luck."
