Katie Maloney Opens Up About Being Body-Shamed By Kevin Lee On Vanderpump Rules: “It Was Very Uncomfortable”

Katie Maloney has opened up about being body-shamed by Lisa Vanderpump's infamous party planner Kevin Lee during this week's episode of Vanderpump Rules. “It was very uncomfortable,” Maloney told Us Weekly.

“Obviously I’m there working for Lisa at her event, we all wanted it to special and go really well for her and I don’t know Kevin …  I had a hard time processing what he was saying to me. I literally thought he told me I looked good and then he kept going.”

She continued, “I was like ‘Wow, um, OK’ and I walked away and told Lisa and it kind of just, like, really set in with me, because I hadn’t been in a good place in my life with self-love. And I struggled with that for a long time and acceptance and confidence and positive body image and I finally was in a place where I felt healthy and I felt great. I had dealt with seeing that stuff on social media a lot and Kevin saying it to my face put a voice and a face to all of that, which was hard, but at the end of the day, and right after, Lisa kind of lifted me back up.”

Meanwhile, Maloney’s husband Tom Schwartz confirmed that he later apologized. “It was way out of line but I think he probably was just being sassy and he regretted it and he was really nice following up … sent a nice letter,” Schwartz told Us Weekly.

“I just still think don’t ever say anything like that to someone,” Maloney added.  “If you’re a decent person, you don’t have to apologize for simple thing like that.”

As previously reported, Kevin Lee clarified his comments about Maloney after the episode aired on Bravo, claiming that it was simply a joke, according to the party planner.

“I found [Maloney’s reaction] kind of weird,” Lee told Page Six. “It was a funny kind of joke that I made. I had known her for a while. I thought it would be fun to say things like that to her.”

The infamous party planner insisted he “said it like a friendly comment,” however, he feels the entire exchange “got out of hand.”

“I didn’t realize until she really reacted really badly,” he explained. “I feel so bad. It wasn’t bad intentioned at all. It was something like, ‘Oh my god, you look a little different than I expected. I haven’t seen you in a while.’ She got really upset.”

Lee says that he’s seen Maloney since the incident and made it clear he wasn’t intentionally trying to make her upset, but it’s unclear if she’s forgiven him.

“She’s very sensitive these days,” Lee told the publication.

If you recall during Monday night's episode of the Bravo hit reality series, “What happened?” Lee asked as Maloney passed appetizers during Vanderpump’s Beverly Hills magazine party.

“You were much thinner than this. You gained a little bit of weight. You have to work on it. Seriously, I’m telling you as a friend. It’s out of control now. I can tell.”

The remark wasn’t taken lightly as Maloney got emotional and cried to Vanderpump after the exchange.

LVP comforted Maloney and told her that she was “the most beautiful girl at the restaurant.”
