Alex McCord’s Husband Simon van Kempen Graduates With Law Degree!

260 students received awards at the Southern Cross University graduation ceremonies last week. Amongst them was former Real Housewives of New York City husband Simon van Kempen, who returned to Northern Rivers three years ago with his family.

The husband of Alex McCord, received an Associate Degree of Law award.

"Never say it's too late in life to start a new chapter and while I wouldn't go so far as to say that the rough and tumble of reality TV prepares one well for the legal profession, the verbal sparring required for Housewives certainly is a complementary skill,” Kempen told Northern Star.

Simon is a director of legal firm van Kempen & Associates at Tweed Heads and will continue his studies in a Bachelor of Laws at Southern Cross University next year.

Alex took to Instagram to congratulate her hubby. "@simonvankempen ticked the 1st box in his Australian legal education, and after 2 years has graduated with a qualification to practice conveyancing/property law," she wrote. "In another 2 years his law degree will be complete."

As previously reported, Alex, her, husband Simon van Kempen, and sons Francois and Johan, moved to Australia in late 2014.

"When Simon and I moved to Australia, we both decided that this was a time of midlife reinvention. What had we not done yet that we wanted to do? It's sort of like the world is our oyster. OK, new life, what are you gonna do?" Alex told The Daily Dish during her visit to the United States. "Simon decided to go to law school, and he's halfway through at this point. And I decided to get a degree in psychology."

But this actually isn't a new passion for Alex. "Back when I was 18 and going to Northwestern, I sort of was up at night figuring, 'Am I gonna do theater or am I gonna do science?' And at the time, I decided on theater, was an actor for 10 years, quit, did the Housewives. I've done all that. Now it's time for science," she said. "I won't age out of it. I don't need boobs or Botox for it. I'm fascinated by the way the brain works."
