Kameron Westcott: “It’s Not Cool When People Bully You Because You Think Differently”

Kameron Westcott is taking to her Bravo Blog to dish on this week's episode of The Real Housewives of Dallas. Kameron Westcott explains why she feels like Brandi Redmond's behavior overstepped her boundaries.

Bravotv.com: The dildo incident. Why were you so offended by the dildo, and what were you thinking when Brandi Redmond was chasing you around with it?
Kameron Westcott: I was offended by Brandi's behavior because she overstepped my boundaries, especially when she chased me with it. If she wants to do those type of things, that’s her prerogative, but it just won't be around me. I have said it many times before, but I don't find sex toys, bathroom humor, or religious jokes acceptable, and if I had to do it all over, I would have done it exactly the same. Don't get me wrong — I love to have fun and be silly, but not at the expense of embarrassing my family and my community.

Bravotv.com: Why do you think Brandi brought up zip codes? What is it like to watch this moment now — do you stand by what you said?
KW: When I watched last season, it made me really upset and embarrassed that Stephanie Hollman and Brandi acted the way they did and how they represented Dallas. The lewd behavior that they demonstrated repeatedly is not an accurate reflection of Dallas women, so I over-exaggerated the importance what part of town they live in because I was mortified. I also was trying to disassociate myself from them and show that is not the norm of the gracious Southern women. Of course, it doesn't matter where you live, but how you live. I have friends from all walks of life, and the only thing I judge them by is the content of their character. I will never apologize for that.

Bravotv.com: What do you think about the other girls’ reactions to you being uncomfortable?
KW: I am a big girl and have the confidence to stand up for myself, but I do appreciate LeeAnne for understanding and respecting that I have certain ethical beliefs, and it's not cool when people bully you because you think differently.

Bravotv.com: What did you mean by "I wasn’t raised like that?" Did you expect Brandi to get so offended in response?
KW: I was trying to let Brandi know that her actions were against my personal morals. I was not implying anything to do with social or economic status, only that the values my family instilled in me have led me to live a life where that type of behavior is considered poor judgment. Sometimes when you give people razor-sharp perceptions of themselves, it cuts a little too deep, and they become defensive and go on the attack instead of self-reflecting. I was not trying to hurt Brandi, I was only trying to stand up for myself. We can agree to disagree, and I am still open to being her friend but only when we have a mutual understanding and respect for each other.

Bravotv.com: Tell us about that conversation at dinner with Brandi. What do you think about Stephanie and Brandi saying you were being judgmental and questioning their parenting?
KW: When people like Stephanie and Brandi give you sufficient evidence that their behavior is outside of what you believe is morally right, it's not judging — it's just staying true to your values. It's my personal belief that I am a role model for my children, and I try my best to always act in a manner that they would be proud of. Maybe I went too far, but I would never want my children to see me doing the things they have done and think that was acceptable behavior.

Bravotv.com: Tell us about the confrontation between Cary Deuber, Brandi, and LeeAnne Locken at the cave night — what’s your take on it?
KW: I get both sides of it. Cary is an expert in her field, and I always appreciate when someone is telling me the facts. However, I totally understand how LeeAnne could be annoyed by Cary giving unsolicited advice. Choosing a doctor for anything is a very personal decision, so I think they are both right, and this really has less to do with doctors and more with the fact they just don't like each other.
