“Luann was lucky that Tom made it to the altar — because it was Tom, not Luann, who nearly called the whole thing off at the last minute,” an source revealed to the publication. Insiders wouldn’t say why D’Agostino got such cold feet.
A source said he ultimately went through with it because “he loves her.” Meanwhile, Luann didn’t pull the plug on their relationship because she feared she would look foolish for ignoring her RHONY co-stars’ early warnings about D’Agostino, and also because she’d already done a lucrative deal with People Magazine for an exclusive about the wedding.
Last week it was reported by the publication that their marriage was in trouble. Apparently. the pair have broken up and got back together a number of times, and Luann allegedly slapped her husband when they got into a spat in a restaurant, according to witnesses.
However, Luann denied all allegations during her appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” Wednesday night. "I did not slap him. We have a very passionate love affair going," said Luann. "We never go to bed angry but when we do, when we wake up, we make up. That's the best part."
Luann went on to call the report just "gossip" and explained that it blew the situation out of proportion. "No, I took his face in a very loving way, and people took it as a slap," Luann said, confirming that she and Tom did have a fight, or a "lovers' quarrel" as she put it, at a New York restaurant. Luann would not name the establishment where the confrontation went down, but she confirmed that it was not at the Regency or Beautique, which have been the site of many famous RHONY moments in the past.
Luann addressed the rumors about her relationship in a statement to The Daily Dish earlier this week. "Tom and I are in love and marriage takes work," she said. "We are working on this together."
Tom expressed a similar sentiment in a statement to Us Weekly. "There is a lot of love here,” he said. “We want it to succeed.”
