Ramona Singer and Jill Zarin have always had a complicated friendship filled with many ups and downs. But now The Real Housewives of New York City stars have set their differences aside after Jill's husband, Bobby Zarin, was hospitalized earlier this month for complications from thyroid cancer.
That's right, Ramona and Jill are friends again, and they pledge to never go back to their feuding ways. “Ramona and I have gotten really close again,” Jill told PEOPLE at her 5th Annual Luxury Luncheon in the Hamptons this weekend, which Ramona also attended. “We’re in a whole different place now. Boy, I never predicted that. I never thought that was coming, ever.”
Ramona told the publication that when she found out from mutual friends that Bobby was in the hospital, her "heart dropped," and she knew she had to reach out to Jill. “Jill and I have had a very tenuous relationship over the years. But as soon as I heard about Bobby, I don’t care what our past is. She and I share a history together. I knew her for about eight years before we did the show," Ramona recalled. "I sent her a text. I said, ‘I only wish the best for you and Bobby.’ I was happy to be there for her. We will always have each other’s backs.”
Jill said that Ramona came to the hospital "with food and in sweats." "We sat and talked and talked. She was there for me," Jill told the publication. "Everything in the past just melted away. None of what happened in the past mattered anymore.”
When Jill wasn't by Bobby's side as he recovers in the hospital from a recent procedure as he continues his battle with cancer, she was working on her 5th Annual Luxury Luncheon, which raised money for the International Thyroid Oncology Group. "Bobby wanted me to be here. I didn’t want to come. I wasn’t going to postpone it, I was going not come and people would understand," Jill told E! News at the event this weekend. "But Bobby said, you have to go because we’re going to raise money for thyroid cancer."
Zarin also revealed that she wasn't holding up very well since Bobby's hospitalization, and the couple is taking things "one hour at a time." "He had a good day yesterday," she said.
Ramona also opened up about seeing Bobby in the hospital. "I went to visit Bobby, he was in great spirits, God Bless him, and Jill and I had a 45 minute talk," she told E! News. "I think [Jill and I] both let our walls down and it was woman to woman, friend to friend. It was a wonderful chat and we came away from it in a really good, bonding manner. Sometimes, unfortunately, tragedy brings people closer."
