The Real Housewives Franchise Expands To Asia — Thailand's ‘The Real Housewives Of Bangkok’ Officially Confirmed!

The Real Housewives franchise keeps on expanding internationally and apparently the newest destination is Asia. According to a new report, Thailand is getting their own Real Housewives installment with ‘The Real Housewives Of Bangkok.’

Content Asia reports Thailand’s Kantana Group has commissioned the first Asian version of NBCUniversal's one-hour docu-drama format, “The Real Housewives of…”.

The 13-part “The Real Housewives of Bangkok” is one of two new NBCUniversal format rights deals announced out of London today. In the second, GMM ONE TV has commissioned a 13-episode local version of “Top Chef”.

“Top Chef Thailand” (13x90 mins) will be produced by Thailand’s The One Enterprise Company.

This is the third version of “Top Chef” to be made in Asia. The first two markets were Indonesia and Vietnam.

Production/broadcast details were not immediately available. Both deals were brokered out of Singapore by NBCUniversal International Formats’ director, format sales liaison, Linfield Ng.

“The Real Housewives is a reality TV phenomenon which has proven compelling viewing for audiences across the US and around the globe,” said Yvonne Pilkington, SVP, format sales & production, NBCUniversal International Formats. “The deal with Kantana Group brings the franchise to Asia for the first time and it will be fascinating to see the culturally contrasting nature of the production and the Bangkok-based wives.”

Canada's The Real Housewives of Toronto and Australia's The Real Housewives of Sydney are set to make their debut in early 2017.
