Astarons: Mutiny in the Solar System is a comic for readers aged seven plus, intended to help them learn basic astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology. It is a joint project with illustrator Myles Lawford and two physics lecturers from the University of Auckland, Dr Nicholas Rattenbury and Dr JJ Eldridge. All three men were at the launch.

It is the second book in a planned a series of 10, in which eight characters representing each of the major planets battle to save the solar system. Other characters include dwarf planets, asteroids, supernovas, galaxies and black holes.

"Lucan was just born and I was sticking the solar system on his wall [when I came up with the idea for the series]," the Iranian-born beauty told Stuff.

Kirkpatrick's friend, socialite businessman Mark Harrison, said the book was "a fantastic piece of equipment to educate children" which managed to teach them "by stealth".
