Earlier this week, Lauri Peterson's son Joshua Waring was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. It was reported that the 27-year-old allegedly shot a 35-year-old man in the lower torso. He was also arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, hit and run, assault and battery and felony evading police after fleeing the scene in a 2011 BMW X3 SUV.
Eight hours later, the SUV crashed after being discovered in Santa Ana, Calif. by helicopter and Waring ran to a nearby business in an attempt to hide, only to surrender soon after.
On Wednesday, June 22, the Orange County district attorney's office filed three counts of attempted murder against Joshua Waring in connection with a shooting early Monday in Costa Mesa, reports the LA Times.
Waring also faces possible sentencing enhancements on allegations of personal use of a firearm and inflicting great bodily injury, according to the criminal complaint filed in Orange County Superior Court.
A judge is scheduled to arraign Waring on the charges Thursday, June 23 in a jailhouse courtroom. He is behind bars at Orange County Jail with bail set at $1 million.
UPDATE: Waring appeared in the Costa Mesa Jail courtroom at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 23 but did not plea, an Orange County Superior Court public information officer told Radar Online.
While the court will not reveal why the court date was moved to July 15, it has officially announced Waring’s charges: three counts of attempted murder, three counts personal use of a firearm and one count of inflicting great bodily injury.
Initially the hearing was supposed to take place Wednesday, June 22, but the court postponed the arraignment after Waring refused to leave his cell.
This is not the first time Waring has had trouble with the law. He pleaded guilty to a hit-and-run in 2008 and drug possession in 2015 among a handful of drug-related felony and misdemeanor charges over the years, as reported by the LA Times.
I can't image the pain and heartbreak that Lauri and her family are going through at the moment. My thoughts and payers are with them during this difficult time.
