Former Real Housewives of New Jersey star Amber Marchese has found herself in a new health scare. Not only is Marchese currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer but she has now been diagnosed with Lyme disease.
"I was officially diagnosed last week," Marchese told to Entertainment Tonight. "About two weeks ago, I had flu-like symptoms which included a low grade fever, headache, aches, chills, join pain and awful neck pain," the 38-year-old mother of two recalled. "I posted my condition on social media and a friend suggested I get tested for Lyme disease. She shared with me her struggles with Lyme disease and we shared many of the same symptoms."
Marchese, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer, explained that she requested the test while at her oncologist's office, during a round of chemotherapy, and the tests came back positive.
"I am very fortunate as I caught it so early that no treatment is necessary," the reality star explained. "But we are going to monitor it."
For Marchese, living a healthy life is all about keeping a positive mindset. "If I thought about the joint pain, then the pain increased. When I ignored it, got my butt to the gym, it went away," she explained. "I believe in the power of the mind. You are sick if you want to be sick, you are well if you want to be well. That is just the way I choose to live my life."
The former RHONJ star also opened about how battling cancer has changed the way she looks at her life. "I am coping by getting my butt to the gym and pushing myself as hard as I can! I enjoy every day as a blessing and focus on my family and friends."
As for her Lyme disease diagnosis, Marchese is thankful doctors discovered the affliction before it could do real damage. "I feel really blessed that I caught it before it is too late," she shared. "I know so many people suffering from this disease and it sounds horrific."
Marchese isn't the only Real Housewives cast member who has faced Lyme disease. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid has been struggling with the disease for years, and recently revealed that two of her children, Bella and Anwar Hadid, are also coping with the ailment.
