Leanne Brown, wife of former Manchester United star Wes, came up with the idea to raise funds for the Once Upon A Smile charity of which she has now become a patron. And as well as clearing out her own wardrobe of designer togs, she was supported by a host of her glamorous WAG pals and co-stars from her new reality TV show the Real Housewives of Cheshire.
Friends supporting her do included fashionista Coleen Rooney, wife of Reds captain Wayne, who donated some of her Christian Louboutin heels and handbags for the charity event, held at Mottram Hall Hotel in Cheshire. Coleen, looking as glam as ever in a patterned Matthew Williamson dress, said she was happy to help her pal Leanne. (pictured below)
She said: “It’s always nice to help out charities, especially the smaller and lesser known ones, so I was happy to donate some heels and handbags. I think it’s a great thing that Leanne is doing and will raise awareness for a really worthwhile cause.”
Leanne is certainly taking her new patron role seriously for Once Upon a Smile – the Manchester charity set up by actors Daniel Jillings and Danny Miller to support families and children going through a bereavement.
As well as the ladies lunch on Thursday, she also held a similar designer sale earlier this month for the charity which was filmed for the new Real Housewives show that is set to air on the ITVBe channel in January.
Leanne said: “There are so many worthwhile charities out there but I was really touched by the stories of families who have been directly helped by Once Upon a Smile. I’m so excited to be a patron of the charity and I’ve really got the fundraising bug now.
“It seemed like a fun idea for everyone to donate clothes and accessories they don’t want and I just hope they go to happy homes!”
Guests at the bash included Carla Kompany, wife of Man City captain Vincent Kompany, Dani Lawrence, wife of Liverpool goalie Brad Jones, Jessica Lawlor, fiancée of ex Man City star Stephen Ireland and Hayley Fletcher, wife of United star Darren Fletcher.
Leanne was also joined by her Real Housewives co-stars Tanya Bardsley and Dawn Ward at the lunch. (pictured below)
She said they’re all excited for the show to be seen – particularly after new adverts started to be screened during primetime shows on ITV in recent weeks.
Leanne said: “It’s exciting but also really nerve wracking. “We’re all looking forward to seeing it, and just hope that people like it.”
