Dublin Wives star Virginia Macari has spoken up about her fiance Kaste Dahl's arrest in connection with an alleged €3.5m fraud. Virginia has detailed how she found herself in the media glare after her beloved partner was detained over his alleged fraud and criminal past.
She has a son with Dahl - Thor, born in February 2012 - and the pair were engaged shortly after his birth, having been together since 2009.
Macari's finance Dahl recently pleaded to giving false information to get a bank loan and is due to face trial. And it was also recently reported that he got an eight year sentence for amphetamine smuggling and a firearm possession offence over 10 years ago.
The revelations saw the fashion designer thrown into the spotlight and she has described the moment she woke up, a day after learning the news of his arrest in March 2014, as a "reverse nightmare".
Speaking to the Sunday Independent's Life magazine, she said: "It was almost like a reverse nightmare, like when you wake up from a nightmare, you're so relieved.
"But I woke up into a nightmare. I felt like I was grieving. I still didn't know what was going on.
"I thought I was never going to see him again. That was the lowest point of my life."
She told how she heard the news: "[That] morning he left for Malaga.
"Kas kissed me and hugged me and said 'I already miss you', as he always does when he travels.
"It was around lunchtime when he rang and told me he was arrested. I screamed down the phone: 'For what?' And that was it.
"I didn't hear from him for three days. I went into full functional overdrive."
Virginia said she still loved and had always loved Kaste for the future he promised.
She added: "He's made mistakes. He has regrets. I know that he has a past and I certainly do not condone criminal activity.
"When I met him, he told me he had skeletons in his closet, but I had already made my choice.
"I didn't fall in love with him because of the past. I fell in love with him because of the future."
And Virginia doesn't believe her fiance will see the inside of a jail cell.
She concluded: "After the investigation ends, which could take another year, he won't be going to prison as reported. Kas's subjective guilt is still to be determined.
"I know he 100% won't be going to prison. He was charged with giving the wrong info to the bank.
"It is up to the judge to decide in the end and as far as we know so far, he won't be going to prison."
For those wondering, Dublin Wives was canceled after two season.
Our thoughts are with Virginia and her son Thor during this difficult time.
