Teresa Giudice Will Serve Jail Time At 'Orange Is The New Black' Prison

When Teresa Giudice reports for her 15-month sentence on January 5, she won't be too far from her home state. The Associated Press reports that a federal judge has ordered the Real Housewives of New Jersey star to serve her term at a facility in Danbury, Connecticut.

Fans may recognize the facility from a popular television show: it is the same one that inspired the series Orange Is the New Black, according to Us Weekly. Piper Kerman, the author of the book that led to the show, served a year at the minimum-security facility for money laundering and drug trafficking. It is also the same detention center where Lauryn Hill served a three-month sentence for tax evasion and where hotel magnate Leona Helmsley served 18 months for tax evasion.

Earlier this week, a lawyer for Teresa filed a letter with a Newark judge requesting she serve part of her sentence in a halfway house. The request was denied, according to the AP.

Teresa pleaded guilty to several counts of fraud in March. On October 2, she was sentenced to 15-months in prison. Her husband, Joe, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 41-months.
