UPDATE: Kenya Moore Donates $20,000 To Detroit Public Schools Foundation; Posts A Picture Of $20K Check On Instagram!

According to the Detroit News, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star has donated $20,000 to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation. The Detroit native graduated from Cass Tech High School in 1989 and is now hoping that the money will be used to close the education equity gap in her struggling hometown.

"Detroit is in trouble and needs our help right now. The public funding for our children in DPS is not being met," Moore said. "We have to provide the proper foundation for our children to succeed."

Kenya will be on hand to present the check during an event in her honor being held Friday at her alma mater. She added, "What matters is that we take care of our kids. I'm trying to do my part, as small as it is."

The foundation was started in 2009 and has awards nearly $5 million in grants, according to Dr. Glenda Price, president of the foundation. The funds go directly to teachers and education nonprofits.

In addition to the donation, Kenya has been putting her Detroit price on full display on Instagram. "We are tough because we have to be. #Detroit," she shared.

UPDATE: An event at which Detroit native Kenya Moore was to return to the Motor City to donate $20,000 to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation has been canceled.

A representative with Moore's staff issued an email Monday saying: "Unfortunately, due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts, this event will be rescheduled to a later date. We will send a revised alert once we have a confirmed date in late October, early November."

Kenya Moore cancelled an appearance at a Detroit high school, but now, she’s attempting to make up for her absence with the $20,000 check she promised. She posted a photo with a check on her Instagram page with the following caption:

"I'm proud to be able to give back and keep my promise to the Detroit public schools foundation to donate $20,000. Detroit is a resilient city and so am I. I will continue to shine despite the people who want to see me fail or try to turn my positivity in to negativity. See you soon Detroit! #igotyomoney #kenyalovesthekids #twirlsawayhaters"
