Denise Richards has always worked hard to make sure her ex-husband Charlie Sheen and their daughters have a loving relationship, according to new sources.
“Denise really strives to keep a good relationship between the girls and their father and always has,” the source told HollywoodLife. “Even as young girls, Denise made it a point to do everything she could to get the girls to see their dad for dinner as a family once a week if not more.” They explained that it could be difficult sometimes with Charlie’s busy schedule, but Denise would always figure out a way to make it work, even if that meant “working it out through his team.”
Additionally, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star keeps her daughters connected with the rest of Sheen’s family, including his parents, Janet and Martin Sheen, and eldest daughter, 36-year-old Cassandra Estevez, from Charlie’s previous relationship with Paula Speert.
But sources claim that it hasn’t been hard for Denise when it comes to Sam and Lola spending time with their father.
“Charlie is very close with his two younger daughters. He tries to see them at least once a week at his house because he doesn’t leave very much. He has a very special bond with them. And, he’s very protective of them more so than the others,” the source said, referring to Cassandra and his twin sons, 11-year-old Bob and Max, with ex-wife Brooke Mueller.
However, despite their tumultuous marriage and subsequent divorce, Richards and Sheen have a thriving co-parenting relationship. Denise and Charlie are “in a cordial place right now and getting along well,” a source told HollywoodLife.
The insider shared that Richards “includes Charlie on anything when it comes to the girls and has tried to make it feel like a family unit. They talk almost every day.”
While at times the two don't always agree, the former couple is making it work so their daughters can have two loving parents.
“They do not always see eye to eye and they do fight, but Denise works really hard at making the relationship solid as possible,” the insider shared. “She’s worked really hard at having the best relationship she can with him and hasn’t ever given up on him despite their ups and downs.”
